Storie di Alberi: Ganja e Mahua

Secondo una leggenda, la pianta della Ganja e l'albero del Mahua sono marito e moglie. Un tempo i due erano stati esseri umani, amanti a cui era  negato il  matrimonio poichè appartenenti a caste diverse. Non volendo stare separati, si erano rifugiati nel profondo della jungla, lontano da tutti, per vivere in pace il loro amore. Alla loro morte, essi rinacquero come piante nel luogo stesso dove erano deceduti. Vedendo la nobiltà e la grandezza del loro amore, Shankar Bhagwan, il Distruttore dell'universo, dette loro il nome di Ganja e di Mahua, ovvero Cannabis ed Alcohol.

According to legend, the Ganja plant and the Mahua tree are husband and wife. They were human beings once, lovers who could not marry because they came from different castes. Refusing to be separated, they went deep into the jungle and took their own lives. They were re-born as plants on the spot where they died. Seeing the beauty of their love, Shankar Bhagwan, the creator, named them Ganja and Mahua, cannabis and alcohol.
